Introducing: Tag Grading To The BuyGradedCards Platform!

If you've been following along for a while, you'll know we've always kept a close eye on the grading landscape. We started out focusing on ACE and PSA, then earlier this year we welcomed CGC slabs onto the website. Well, the family has just grown again, because we're excited to announce that TAG graded Pokemon cards are now officially available on BuyGradedCards!

So What Is TAG?

TAG (Technical Authentication & Grading) is the newest of the big names in Pokemon grading, and it does things quite differently to everyone else. Rather than relying on a human grader looking over your card, TAG uses its own patented imaging technology to assess centering, corners, edges and surface, scoring each card on a precise 1000-point scale which is then translated into the familiar 1-10 grade.

The idea is simple: take as much human subjectivity out of grading as possible, so the same card should get the same result every time.

What Makes TAG Slabs Stand Out

There are a few things about TAG that have really caught our attention:

Full transparency on the grade every TAG slab comes with a Digital Imaging & Grading (DIG) report, accessed by scanning the QR code on the slab, showing exactly where the card picked up any defects and why it received the grade it did
Consistency because the grading is technology-led, there's far less of the "why did this get a 9 when that got a 10?" debate
Presentation TAG slabs look genuinely premium, with the card details inscribed into the slab itself rather than printed on a paper label
Not all 10s are equal the 1000-point scale means you can actually see how a Gem Mint 10 stacks up against other 10s of the same card

That first point really sits well with how we do things here. Full transparency has been at the heart of BuyGradedCards from day one, and TAG takes that same approach to the grade itself.

Where Does TAG Fit Alongside ACE, PSA and CGC?

We don't see TAG as a replacement for any of the others, more another great option for collectors to choose from. PSA is still the global heavyweight for resale, ACE remains the brilliant homegrown UK favourite, and CGC has proven itself as a seriously strong option for modern cards. TAG brings something a bit different to the table, and for collectors who love knowing exactly why a card got its grade, it's a really exciting addition.
